Challenges and Opportunities in Web-3 User Research
- It’s difficult to quantify the value of user research — generative research versus usability testing.
- A usability audit of an existing product is more quantifiable — e.g., we tested 5 users and identified a problem. We addressed the problem, and this is ththeis outcome.
- Most user research is qualitative — studying needs, pain points, and behavior.
- Trust and education aren’t being well-solved for in Web3. What are trust signals are users looking for? Why would users trust one product over an alternative?
- In education — what is the information users need to know and at what point? Progressive discolsure is cruciual, and you can use reserach to determine what information users need to know at what point.
A User Reserach Workflow
- Begin with a screener survey — 4 or 5 questions.
- “How long have you been in this space? What products do you use?”
- Filter potential candidates based on responses.
- Send an invitation. Reiterate the same information at each touchpoint.
- “This interview will last this long. You will get paid. It will be recorded.”
- The day before the session, send a reminder.
- Run the session.
